Precious Emily

On Wednesday 15th June Year 4 took part in the premier performance of Precious Emily, written by Stan’s Cafe for the Birmingham Commonwealth Arts festival.
Precious Emily tells the stories of two inspirational weightlifters; Precious McKenzie and Emily Campbell. Precious McKenzie (4’10”) the legendary four times Commonwealth Games gold medal-winner, whose incredible tale includes an escape from apartheid in South Africa, his father being killed by a crocodile and an attempt to join the circus.
Emily Campbell (5’11”) the charismatic and trailblazing Olympic Games silver medal winner whose uplifting adventure includes carnival, school sports day, a gold shirt, a difficult decision, a messy bedroom and lots and lots of hard work.
This beautiful, witty show is also about all the lessons weightlifting can teach us, even when the heavy things we have to lift are only in our minds.
The children did an outstanding job! We look forward to the upcoming review in the Birmingham Mail. We were also surprised with a visit from not only Precious McKenzie himself but also Emily Campbell.
A massive thank you and well done to Stan’s Cafe, particularly Craig, to the children in Year 4 and to you at home for supporting your children with this unforgettable project.
Thank you
Year 4 team.
