Green Flag for Y6

As part of our geography topic, we carried out some work towards the Eco Schools Green Flag application.  We analysed the Birmingham Travel Plan to identify any changes that have already been made as well as exploring the benefits and concerns of the introduction of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.  Finally, we created information posters to promote the use of The Blue Cycle Route to visit local places of interest.

Tres Bien 6BK!

This Christmas, Key Stage Two pupils have written Christmas cards to a primary school in France. We look forward to receiving some back!

Joyeux Noel!

As part of our International Links and French topics, Year 6 have been making Christmas cards to send to a school in France. They learnt the French for Merry Christmas and wrote it in their cards!

Y6 have become keen Geographers!

In geography, we have been learning about how longitude and latitude lines can help locate places in the world.  We listened to a catchy song to help us remember how longitude and latitude works!

Y6 PSHE & British Values work

As part of our PSHE and British Values work,  we have been focussing on the presidential election in the USA.  We reflected on the importance of integrity, democracy, and equality of opportunity. We watched Kamala Harris’ speech and how she encouraged all children to believe in themselves and their hopes for the future.

Look what Y6 have been up to!

Year 6 have started their new topic on “Locational Knowledge”. Children have discussed different ways to locate places e.g Google Maps and Atlases. They have also located different countries, mountain ranges and rivers. It has been lovely to hear the wealth of knowledge children already had about the world they live in!

HOPE Workshops

HOPE by The Playhouse
The HOPE project is a participatory workshop which is based around a fictional historical town where a plague occurs. Juliet (the lead actress) explored, with the children, how different characters may feel when separated from other townships as well as other effects of the plague. They also reflected on the support given from others as well as how the characters helped themselves during this time. This, alongside the resources, enabled the children to reflect upon their own feelings during lockdown as well as reflect on the feelings of others.

6O with Mr Orgill

Just a little something about 6O and how they have settled in.
“6O have settled back into school life exceptionally well so far. Children have come back to school with a positive attitude ready to tackle new learning and skills. It was lovely to see lots of Anderson Shelter models that were made over the summer. Children took great pride in telling the class about how they made them and the materials they used. 6O have been keen to learn about WWII and are excited to share their knowledge with their peers. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate children on the enthusiasm they have showed since coming back. Well done!”

6BK with Mrs Brill & Mrs Kyricaou

“Hello and welcome to 6BK! Our class is comprised of Mrs Kyriacou, who teaches on Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Brill, who teaches Wednesday-Friday. We also have Miss Huxley, our assistant headteacher, who teaches Maths and English in the mornings. Year Six have had a fantastic start to the year. We have settled in really well and are enjoying our topic, World War Two. We are learning about the impact of the war, from evacuation to rationing.

We are currently in the process of writing our house captain speeches. Our speeches will be filmed and watched by all the other pupils, who in the spirit of democracy will then vote for their house captain. We have two captains for each house: Griffins, Unicorns, Dragons and Phoenix!”
