Local Library Visits – we are so glad they are back!

So pleased that our local library visits are getting underway – over the rest of the school year, each of our classes will get the chance to visit either Stirchley or Selly Oak Library.
On Monday RD visited our local Library “Selly Oak Library in Touchbase pears”.
We walked to the library, listened to a story and then looked through some books. The children loved exploring some books they recognised and some new stories too. We even had some lovely story telling from our parent helpers!
Then later in the week 3M had a great time in Stirchley library! We enjoyed looking through many books and reading for pleasure on the carpet. Then, David read us all a funny picture book. Many of us want to sign up to the library now!

School Closure – 10/3/23

Due to dangerous conditions of snow and ice, Raddlebarn will be closed today. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. A padlet has been set up with some home learning activities – please check your emails.

Please stay safe and warm and we will see you on Monday!

Story Sack Making Workshop

What an amazing way to round off World Book Day – Miss DeBeer ran a story sack making workshop for our families – it was magical!

For World Book Day we wanted to do something extra special to promote love for reading! So, we held a “story sack” making workshop. The children selected a book and objects related to that book to go inside their own sack. Miss De Beer did a sewing tutorial and then the children and parents worked together to sew up their own sack and pop all their object inside.

World Book Day

What an amazing day we had for World Book Day— we enjoyed dressing up, sharing our favourite books and even Hazel could not resisting sharing her favourite book with the school. She popped around to all of the classes to show off her outfit!

During the day, each class completed an author study to find out more about a range of authors. They have focused on:

Year 6: Jamila Gavin, Anthony Horowitz & J.R.R. Tolkien

Year 5: Gillian Cross & Onjali Q Raif

Year 4: William Shakespeare & Michael Morpurgo

Year 3: Anne Fine & Lucy Daniels

Year 2: Humphrey Carpenter & Alan Ahlberg

Year 1: Anthony Brown & Julia Donaldson

Rec: Rachel Bright and Oliver Jeffers

Nursery: James Dean

Check out the class pages to see more!

We also had a story sack making workshop, a book sale and Friends of Raddlebarn even donated a book to every child which they got to take home – a big thank you to Friends of Raddlebarn for supporting reading. We all know how important it is!

Dog Training with Hazel!

A huge thank you to The Dog Mentor organisation who visited Raddlebarn Primary and Nursery School today, to train both Hazel and 6 of our staff as official qualified dog handlers.
Hazel was put to the test and passed with flying colours and is now a fully qualified Dog Mentor.
Six members of staff have also trained and qualified as her official Dog Handlers and have been trained to ensure that everyone is safe, Hazel is happy and that we can help make Raddlebarn an even better place to be.
Hazel even visited one of our classes who helped put Hazel to the test. Well done Hazel!

Spoz – poet visit

We have had an amazing day with Spoz the poet today – he worked with all year groups across the school including EYFS. He shared some of his poetry, and then each class had a go at writing some of their own. Children in Y5/6 even had a slam battle at the end of the day!
