Yr 3 have been learning about health & nutrition

This final term in Year 3 we have been learning about Health and Nutrition. We have investigated the Human Body and how we are different to some animals which included how to keep our bodies healthy.
This included growing herbs and vegetables in the school garden and learning about seasonality and how the seasons affects what is best to eat for us.
We finished the terms topic by making delicious soups in class! We planned, chopped, peeled, diced and sliced ingredients to make two different recipes:Ā  Tomato, Pepper and Coriander Soup and a Hearty Vegetable Soup.
They were delicious and the school chefs came in and said we had done a wonderful job!Ā  Good job Year 3!

Reception Update

RH have thoroughly enjoyed spending our last few days in Reception – outdoors! We have been using all of our senses to explore and discover. The sandpit is always so much fun. We can mould, dig and even sieve! We loved being able to see all the lovely colours when we visited Raddlebarn in Bloom too. We made collage flowers for the pretty banner, which we found hanging in the playground and loved! We looked carefully and managed to find our own designs. We felt very proud of our work. We also loved our time in the garden! So much to see! We found bird feeders, different plants, wind spinners and we even saw a butterfly.Ā  A lovely end to our very busy time in Reception!

Stan’s Cafe

We have been lucky enough to work alongside Craig Stephens from the theatre company Stan’s Cafe this term. He is fab and very funny! We have had so many adventures… we have travelled over mountains, swam through raging rivers and even found a golden ring that belonged to a princess who lived in very tall tower!

One of the most exciting things we have done with Criag is to transform ourselves into Superheroes using a ‘green screen’ and an app on our computer called ‘Comic Life’. We learnt about speech bubbles and created our very comic strips which we could write in.
We would like to thank Craig for giving us such amazing acting experiences this term and cannot wait to see him again in September!

Guatemalan Worry Dolls

As part of our preparations for moving into Reception, the Nursery children have been learning about Guatemalan Worry Dolls.
Worry dollsĀ (also calledĀ trouble dolls; in Spanish, MuƱeca quitapena) are small, hand-madeĀ dollsĀ that originate fromĀ Guatemala. According to legend,Ā GuatemalanĀ children tell theirĀ worriesĀ to theĀ Worry Dolls, placing them under their pillow when they go to bed at night.
After learning more about the country of Guatemala (listening to music and looking at pictures of this amazingly beautiful country), we made our own worry dolls. We used lots of techniques such as wrapping, twisting, cutting, measuring, sticking and tying.
We have also listened to the story of ‘Ruby’s Worry’ by Tom Percival. We really recommend this fabulous book that helps us to realise that when we have a worry inside, it is best to share it with someone to help it go away… just like sharing our worries with our Worry Dolls.
