World Book Day highlights!

What a fantastic day we had – here are some of the highlights!

During World Book Day teachers created book blankets in their classrooms, they watched live lessons and the Reading Ravers were sharing their favourite book recommendations! Friends of Raddlebarn also bought every child a book to take home! Check out some of the work the children have been doing on the class pages – it will start appearing over the next few days!

We all enjoyed dressing up! – even Hazel!

We had so many literary visitors sharing their fave stories with the children-Craig from @stanscafe, Sarah from @flatpack, Beverley from @touchbasepears, Julianne from @StirchLibrary, Jenny from @BraveWren book shop to name a few!

World Book Day – Reception

On World Book Day, Reception loved finding out about Nathan Byron, the author of this week’s book, Clean Up.  We were inspired to find out about his other books and looked at similarities between the books he had written.

We shared our favourite books with each other and wrote Tales Toolkit book reviews to encourage others to read them.

Y2 World Book Day

We have had a fantastic World Book Day in Year 2.
We have been learning about the author Humphrey Carpenter.
He is famous for writing the Mr Majeika books.
Did you know he also wrote some biographies?
Did you know he could play many musical instruments?
Today we have read the book 365 Penguins. There were lots of Maths problems to solve!
Can you guess some of the characters we dressed up as?

Julia Donaldson – WBD

Year 1 had a fantastic day exploring the work and life of Julia Donaldson on World Book Day 2024. They did a quiz, listened to guest storytellers, wrote a blurb about Julia,  a book review and then voted for their most favourite of her storybooks: tie-break ‘Wake Up Lydia Lou and A Squash and a Squeeze!

Can you spare a few hours a week to become a reading helper at our school?

We are working with Coram Beanstalk, a charity that recruits and trains volunteer reading helpers who can commit to an afternoon a week to come in to school. As a reading helper you will support at least 3 children on a one-to-one basis outside of the classroom environment. You will be sharing and talking about books, helping them to grow in confidence and develop a lifelong love of reading.

For more information or if you wish to apply, visit the website or call 0207 729 4087.

Y2 Science

Today, in Year 2, we had the opportunity to dissect a variety of bulbs and seeds. This activity aimed to help us understand and compare the differences and similarities between seeds and bulbs. Throughout the session, we asked and answered scientific questions that were vital in drawing our conclusions.
