PCSO Update

Earlier today, the Junior PCSOs were lucky enough to meet with PC Harris and look inside a police van. They were shown specialist police equipment and talked through what happens during particular incidents/responses. The Junior PCSOs then reported the findings of their traffic survey, completed on Wednesday 12th June, to PCSO Jones and PCSO Jeffries who then supported them in how to educate parents/children and tackle problem parking going forward. The Junior PCSOs, PCSOs and Miss Morris worked as a team to write something for our school newsletter. Make sure to take a look!

Nursery News

In Nursery, we love to share books together. Whether they be information books, poetry or good old picture books, we just love to listen and share our favourites together. This week we have been sharing a poetry book and a new story book. ‘Brian The Lion Who Learned’ is a terrific read all about a lion who learns to be respectful of others. Respect is such an important idea and this is what we strive for together as a Nursery team.

Following the reading of this book some of us had a go at making lion masks. The children used their D&T skills such as scissor work, attaching (glue and sellotape) and their drawing skills to create these incredible head masks – the results are simply stunning and would not look amiss in a West End production of ‘The Lion King’!

As we learn poems through our Poetry Basket, we have also been sharing an anthology book of poems called, ‘Here’s a Little Poem.’ It is a lovely collection of poems by different poets and illustrated by a whole host of illustrators.
We took inspiration from the poem ‘A Circle of Sun’ and were inspired by the fabulous illustration. Here are some of our own creations using the poem as a stimulus. We hope you enjoy them as much as we had making them.

International Evening!

What a fantastic end to One World Week – We have had a fantastic week learning about different cultures and countries. Then on Thursday we enjoyed celebrating as a fantastic school community – thank you to our families for coming and sharing your experiences (and your lovely food!)

Art News!

Birmingham Arts School recognised Raddlebarn’s commitment to the Arts earlier in the year, when they commissioned their cultural landscape work, where Raddlebarn was awarded number 1 in the West Midlands for their partnership work in schools.

They are now hosting city-wide awards and Raddlebarn has yet again been recognised and have been nominated for 4 categories and Miss Lowry specifically for 1 award.

We were nominated for:

  • Drama award for partnerships with Birmingham Hippodrome, for the Birmingham REP sand for Stan’s Cafe
  • New partnership Award with Birmingham Hippodrome

Miss Lowry has been nominated for The Changemaker Award by a number of organisations.

This is what Bhavik Palmer from the REP has said about her:

” Angela Lowry has made a remarkable contribution to arts education at Raddlebarn Primary & Nursery School. Angela’s dedication and leadership in promoting the arts is truly commendable, and her nomination is a testament to her impactful work. The judges would like to reiterate that they feel Angela is an incredibly strong candidate for this award and she has gone above and beyond to enrich the lives of their students through arts and cultural learning. We would like to convey our sincere appreciation for her continued commitment to fostering creativity and collaboration within her school community. Angela’s long-term commitment to embedding arts practice in schools, her efforts to instill creativity in young people, and her advocacy for the importance of arts in education are all deeply valued. Her legacy of providing opportunities for students, teachers, and artists alike will undoubtedly continue to positively impact the lives of many. We are grateful for Angela’s contributions and the positive influence she has had on arts education. “

1M One World Week

One of the areas 1M looked at during ‘One World Week’ was the Capivara National Park in Brazil.
There are cave paintings dating back at least 25,000 years ago and the children were inspired to write a fact file about what they had learned and drew their own cave painting pictures.
