Healthy Hamper

As part of the social enterprise for year 1, 1DB and 1M donated food for a ‘Healthy Hamper’ to the Birmingham Hospice as a special gift. This linked to our PSHE lessons about caring for each other and taking and sharing responsibility.

Junior PCSOs

Our Junior PCSOs made their pledge to West Midlands Police today and graduated! They are very proud of all the hard work and contributions they have made to improve the school community over the past term. They have learnt a lot about the police and the important job they do and supported Miss Morris with traffic surveys. They will continue to work with Miss Morris next year.

Football Success!

What a week it has been for the teams of Raddlebarn!
On Tuesday, our girls took part in the play-offs for the Girls’ Summer League, finishing a very creditable joint third (and being finally knocked out by the eventual winners).
On Thursday, our school team played off against Kings Norton for the John Llewellyn Trophy, as both teams had finished their league season unbeaten. It was a pulsating match which ebbed and flowed, keeping the crowd entertained and producing more excitement than many games you will have seen on the television recently. Coming back from a 0 – 3 half time deficit, our players almost turned the match around, with Kings Norton Primary hanging on to win 5 – 4 . Congratulations to KN. Mr. Orgill, Mr. Weatherup and Mrs. Merrifield were so proud of our players for the skill, spirit and teamwork shown.
Well done everyone!

A Musical Week!

Wow! What a musical week we’ve had!
On Tuesday evening, our choir and strings ensemble took part in the Youth Proms, playing at Symphony Hall alongside musicians and singers from other Birmingham schools.
The ensemble played three Bon Jovi and Rick Astley tunes brilliantly, whilst the choir sang their hearts out in a Queen rock medley. Amazing sounds and we are all so proud of them!
Wednesday evening saw others of our talented Raddlebarn musicians perform in our summer concert. Again, our musicians delighted the audience with their brilliant performances.
Wonderful performances like these are credit to pupils’ enthusiasm, sheer dedication, resilience, hard work and their ability to work cooperatively with others in groups.
A big thank you is extended to our SFE music teachers for their hard work and commitment to our school. Thank you to our Raddlebarn families for the support and encouragement you give your children. Thank you also to staff in school for enabling rehearsals and events to take place but the BIGGEST THANK YOU OF ALL must go our Raddlebarn musicians for performing so fantastically and bringing so much joy to their audiences.

3M Library Visit

3M had a lovely time at Stirchley library! We talked about joining a library, exploded the books available and heard a story at the end. Even the teachers had their noses buried in books! Thank you Stirchley Library & Volunteers who spent time with us!

Pasties!

Year 3 have had a wonderful final half term full of Food Technology lessons. We baked pasties and sold them to raise money for an animal charity. We raised £54.80! We also made a second pasty with fillings of our choice to experiment with combining flavours and textures. We ate them and evaluated our cooking skills!

James – Eco Warrior!

We are very proud of James in Y3 for recycling at Baggeridge Country Park with his sister! He often says, “We need to recycle….that’s not good for our planet!” so he wanted to make a difference – what a great eco-role model!

Art Focus Day Y4

What a talent group Y4 are! Today, for our Art day, we looked at the techniques for creating texture, shading and definition in drawings. Using graded pencils, after several example pieces, we had a go at creating our own interpretations of Paul Cezanne or Shania Mcdonagh works.

New to Y3

The children had a fantastic transition day in Year 3. We looked at the story ‘The Dot’ by Peter H Reynolds and created our own advice notes for Vashti as well as our very own dots to decorate the cover of our new class reflection book. We also learnt a few facts about our topic from Autumn 1, ‘the stone age’ and designed and drew our own cave drawings which we can’t wait to display. We are really looking forward to September, have a restful break. Miss Hall and Mrs Ingram.

Nursery News

Focusing on the mathematical skills of positional language and linked to elements such as ‘describe a familiar route’ within our curriculum, we have been immersing ourselves in the popular tale of ‘Rosie’s Walk’ by Pat Hutchins. In the story a hen ‘Rosie’, goes for a walk around her farm, unaware that a crafty fox is following her! The book is superb for describing how and where Rosie is going, enabling the children to understand words associated with positional language.
We have not only used story props to embed this language but also we ourselves became foxes and hens and used our outdoor equipment to build an obstacle course so we could deepen our understanding of following and describing a familiar route.
To top off the week, Oliver’s Daddy brought in one of their hens to show us. She is a magnificent hen with a beautiful plumage and lays the most scrumptious eggs! So thank you Oliver and Daddy for making this a very special way to end our very busy week!
